How to get around in Malaga?

Assuming many people spend 2 days in Malaga as part of an Andalucian or European road trip, a rental car is totally recommendable. Even if you are flying directly to Malaga, a rental car brings you easily into the city and gives you the possibility to explore other places from Malaga by car. However, in terms of public transport, Malaga is a well-connected city. There is a good connection to get from the airport into the city via train and bus. In the main area itself, you can reach the city’s attractions within walking distance. If your feet are tired from all the walking, there are plenty of bicycle hires, called Malaga bici, as well.

When is the best time to spend 2 days in Malaga?

I am pretty sure if you would type “dream weather” into the Google search bar, you will find pictures of the Costa del Sol. Seriously, Malaga is blessed with more than 300 days of sunshine and a warm climate throughout the whole year. That’s one of the many reasons why Malaga is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Southern Spain. With temperatures ranging from 15°C in February up to 40°C in August, chances are high that you only need summer clothes on your packing list.

Even though temperatures can get quite hot in the mid of summer, you will always feel a refreshing little breeze from the ocean, which makes it super pleasant to walk around the city. Therefore, Malaga has a huge climate advantage compared to its nearby cities Seville and Cordoba, which are inland of Andalucia. However, if you are willing to go for a swim in the sea, I would recommend coming earliest in June as it can get quite windy and chilly on the beach. If the beach is not your priority and you want to benefit from lower prices and fewer tourists, visiting Malaga in winter (December – February) is perfect for you.

What to eat in Malaga?

You would need to stay for several weeks, or even months, to only get a chance to try all the delicious food and visit all the restaurants this area has to offer. However, here are the top dishes you have to try during your stay:

  • Paella
  • Tapas
  • Seafood
  • Gazpachuelo Malagueno (typical soup)
  • Plato de Los Montes de Malaga (combination plate)
  • Tarta Malaguena (cake with almonds)

Since staying hydrated is important as well, you should not miss out on all the bars in Malaga! 🙂 When sipping on your wine glass in one of Malaga’s narrow streets, lean back and enjoy the Spanish flair – a colorful hustle and bustle of people chattering and laughing, music playing, and the clinking sound of glasses.
