After visiting ITB Berlin, I decided to extend my days in the German capital – this time not for work, but privately with my boyfriend. For our little Berlin weekend trip, we wanted to try a hotel that is centrally located and modern, yet still cozy and peaceful. That’s how we discovered the YARD Hotel in Berlin Kreuzberg, part of the little BIG hotels group – a true hidden gem right in the heart of the city!
In this post, I’ll share what made the hotel so special for me, why it was perfect for our weekend trip, and the breakfast secret you absolutely shouldn’t miss!

About the YARD Hotel
The YARD Hotel is a classic boutique hotel known for its personal style and chic atmosphere. With only 38 rooms, you immediately feel welcome and not like in an anonymous city hotel. It has a modern design with a touch of industrial loft charm: high-quality materials, warm colors, and stylish details.
Getting to the YARD Hotel
Getting to the YARD Hotel is easy. If you’re traveling by train – like we did – you can reach the hotel from Berlin Hauptbahnhof in about 20–30 minutes using public transport. The simplest way is via U-Bahn or S-Bahn to one of the stations near Hallesches Tor or Mehringdamm, from which the hotel is just a few minutes’ walk.
If you’re arriving by plane, the hotel is also conveniently accessible from Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) via local trains. Depending on the connection, the journey takes around 40–50 minutes.
Location: Berlin Kreuzberg
The hotel is located in the heart of Berlin Kreuzberg, one of the city’s most vibrant and diverse neighborhoods. While Kreuzberg may not be my personal pick for the prettiest district in Berlin, it definitely scores points for its central location and lively city life. From here, you can quickly reach many attractions and have countless restaurants, cafés, and bars right at your doorstep.
Many of Berlin’s main attractions – like Checkpoint Charlie – are even within easy walking distance. The hotel is also very well connected to public transport. Several U-Bahn stations are within walking distance, including Hallesches Tor and Mehringdamm, making it easy to reach other parts of the city. In my opinion, the U-Bahn is the best way to get around Berlin – trains run very regularly and take you quickly to key sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, or Potsdamer Platz.
Alternatively, you can explore Berlin by bike or use one of the many ride-sharing options like Uber, which are widely available.
For us, the location of the YARD Hotel was perfect for a relaxed leisure stay in Berlin: central enough to get anywhere quickly, yet in a neighborhood with its own character and plenty of local charm.
Room Categories
During our stay, my boyfriend and I stayed in the “BIG” room category, which offers around 30 m² of space and is perfect for couples. The room is modern and minimalist, with warm colors and high-quality materials that perfectly match the boutique character of the hotel. Despite its central location in Kreuzberg, it was very quiet, allowing us to relax after a long day exploring the city.
I particularly loved the large windows, which let in plenty of natural light and make the room feel bright and welcoming. The bathroom with the rain shower was beautifully designed – modern, simple, and exactly what you want after a long walk around Berlin.
The bed was also very comfortable, even though I’m not usually a fan of two separate mattresses in a double bed. Another positive was that the room had plenty of space, so even with two people and luggage, it never felt cramped.
In addition to the BIG category, the YARD Hotel also offers other room options: the “LITTLE ONE” is ideal for solo travelers, while the “LITTLE” and “MEDIUM” rooms are more compact but still feature beautiful large windows. There’s a suitable option here for both solo trips and weekend getaways for two.
Exceptionally Good and Varied Breakfast
Like my stay at the fjord Hotel, breakfast at the YARD Hotel was a real highlight. The selection is huge, everything is freshly prepared, and it tastes amazing. I particularly loved the Rote Grütze (a German red berry pudding) – perfect for an energizing start to the day!
Alongside classic breakfast options, there are many creative and seasonal highlights: fresh baked goods, homemade mueslis, fresh fruit, and hearty spreads.
I also really liked how bright and welcoming the breakfast room is – it’s a great place to start the day in a relaxed way. For us, breakfast was definitely a reason to linger a bit longer at the hotel in the morning and enjoy the start of our Berlin day.
Specials: SPA & Courtyard
A standout feature of the YARD Hotel is the small, stylish SPA area, perfect for unwinding after a busy day in the city. Here you’ll find a pool, a sauna, and a relaxation area – ideal for recharging after sightseeing in Berlin. The pool isn’t a whirlpool, so the water is a bit cooler, which took me by surprise at first, but it’s still refreshing.
Another lovely detail is the quiet courtyard, which gives the hotel its name. I visited Berlin in early March – still quite cool – but on warmer days, it’s perfect to sit outside and enjoy a coffee (which is served free from 1 pm–9 pm at the hotel).
