Best Brunch Spots in Budapest
Since my friends and I stayed in an Airbnb without breakfast, we decided to make the most of it and try a new brunch spot every single day instead of cooking ourselves. And honestly, what a great decision that was! These are the places we tried and absolutely loved:
Café Muse

A stylish and cozy café with a great variety of brunch dishes at fair prices. The interior of Café Muse is beautifully designed – modern yet warm. I can highly recommend the avocado and egg bread, which was perfectly seasoned and came with a generous portion of fresh toppings.
Cookie & Beacon Brunch

This spot is famous for its stuffed cookies and sweet dishes like pancakes and fruit bowls, but they also serve tasty savory breakfast options and lunch meals. Cookie Beacon Brunch is a well-known place, so expect some waiting time during high season. We visited in early October and only waited around 10 minutes on a weekend – totally fine!
SOLID Rooftop Brunch

As the name suggests, this brunch spot comes with a view! SOLID is located on a rooftop with floor-to-ceiling windows, so you can enjoy the panorama even from indoors. The atmosphere is a bit more elegant, and prices are slightly higher than at other cafés, but it’s worth it for a special occasion. The menu is creative – don’t expect your usual avocado toast or eggs Benedict here – but every dish we tried was both beautifully presented and delicious.
À la Maison Grand
If you’re in the mood for a slightly fancier brunch experience, head to À la Maison Grand. It’s located right in the city center, just a few steps from St. Stephen’s Basilica, and offers beautifully presented dishes in a stylish, bright interior with marble tables and pastel tones. Make sure to reserve a table on weekends, as it’s one of the most popular brunch spots in Budapest.
Best Dinner Spots in Budapest
If you think you’ll only find traditional Hungarian food in Budapest, think again! Thanks to its mix of cultures and international visitors, the city’s food scene is incredibly diverse. Whether you’re a vegetarian, a vegan, or a die-hard meat lover, there’s something for everyone. Here are the dinner spots that impressed me the most:
Reiskorn

Reiskorn is an authentic Asian restaurant serving comforting bowls of ramen, fresh rice dishes, and flavorful sides. Everything tasted authentic and delicious – perfect for when you’re craving something cozy and hearty.
La Fabbrica

The Italian restaurant La Fabbrica is located right by St. Stephen’s Basilica – so you can enjoy your pizza with one of the best views in the city. Their wood-fired pizza was crispy, thin, and absolutely delicious. Grab a table outside if the weather allows, order a glass of wine, and enjoy some people-watching.
Mazel Tov
A Budapest classic that you’ll find on almost every must-visit list – and for a reason! This Middle Eastern-style restaurant is set in a stunning ruin building with hanging plants, fairy lights, and a lively atmosphere. Definitely book your table at Mazel Tov ahead in the evenings!
Twentysix Budapest
This one feels like dining in an urban jungle. Twentysix combines a restaurant, bar, and concept store, all in a space filled with tropical plants and natural light. The Mediterranean-inspired dishes are perfect for sharing – mezze plates, grilled veggies, and refreshing cocktails.
Retek Mini
For those who want to try traditional Hungarian food in a cozy, authentic setting, Retek Bistro is a must-visit. Their goulash soup is a must, and the staff is incredibly friendly. Portions are generous, and the atmosphere feels homey and warm – just like a real Hungarian grandma’s kitchen.
Best Cafés in Budapest
Budapest’s café culture is just as vibrant as its restaurant scene – from elegant historic coffee houses to hipster spots with creative drinks. These were my favorite Budapest food guide café spots:
MITZI

MITZI is more than just a café – it’s a great place to have a light meal, too. We ordered a mixed dip platter with fresh bread, and it was absolutely delicious. The cozy interior and friendly service made it one of our go-to places.
Madal Café

A local favorite known for its top-quality coffee and creative options like beetroot cappuccino. Mandal Café is perfect for remote workers or anyone who wants to chill with a good book.
Parisi Passage Café & Brasserie

Located inside the stunning Parisi Passage, this place feels like stepping back in time. The live music adds a lovely touch, and you can either enjoy a proper meal or just relax with coffee and cake. Their dessert stands with mixed sweets are almost too pretty to eat!
New York Café
Often called the most beautiful café in the world – and yes, it’s worth the hype. The ornate interior, chandeliers, and classical music make it feel like a movie set. New York Café is a bit pricey, but definitely a must-visit for the experience.
Gerbeaud Café

Another Budapest food guide classic, right on Vörösmarty Square. The historic coffee house Gerbeaud is famous for its traditional Hungarian cakes like Dobos and Eszterházy torte.
Budapest Food Guide: Must-eat Snacks
Budapest is full of snack options that you just can’t miss between sightseeing stops.
Bagel at Zerge Coffeeshop: Incredibly delicious bagels – ideal for a quick stop before or after visiting Fisherman’s Bastion.

Bagel Basilica: Another great option on the Pest side, close to St. Stephen’s Basilica.
Lángos at Retro Lángos Budapest: A true Hungarian classic – deep-fried dough topped with sour cream and cheese. Greasy? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.
Baumstriezel (Chimney Cake) at Gelateria Pichler Fagyizó: Another must-eat snack when in Budapest! Crispy outside, soft inside, and you can even get it filled with ice cream.
Great Market Hall: Budapest’s massive indoor market, where you’ll find everything from paprika to fresh produce and local snacks. Don’t miss it! You can also buy souvenirs and clothes here.

Best Rooftop Bars in Budapest
As beautiful as Budapest is during the day, the city truly shines at night. Watching the skyline light up while sipping a cocktail is the perfect way to end the day. These rooftop bars are my top picks for this Budapest food guide:
Leo Rooftop Bar

I went here on the last night of my 3 days in Budapest – and it instantly became my favorite rooftop bar! You can sit comfortably indoors and step out to the small terrace for photos with the perfect view. The bar is located in one of the best districts in Budapest. The veggie mini burgers and the Espresso Martini at Leo Rooftop Bar were both incredible.
High Note SkyBar

Located right next to St. Stephen’s Basilica, High Note SkyBar is part of an elegant hotel with a grand piano in the lobby. The views stretch from the Basilica and the Ferris Wheel all the way to the Royal Palace. I had a delicious Cosmopolitan here, but they also serve creative, musical-themed cocktails.
White Raven SkyBar & Lounge
Situated near Fisherman’s Bastion, this rooftop offers breathtaking views over Buda and the Danube. White Raven SkyBar & Lounge is a bit more upscale, but totally worth it for the setting.
Other Bars & Party Spots in Budapest
If you’re in the mood to experience Budapest’s famous nightlife, you’ll be spoiled for choice. Here are a few spots I’d recommend:
Szimpla Kert: The most iconic ruin bar in Budapest – quirky, colorful, and a total must-see.

Aranybástya: A more elegant bar with views over the city – ideal for sunset drinks.

- Stifler Ház: A lively place with a fun crowd, perfect for a casual night out.
- La Siesta Budapest: Trendy cocktails and great music in a laid-back setting.
- Instant-Fogas Komplexum: A massive party complex with multiple dance floors and music styles. You could spend an entire night here!
Budapest Food Guide: Final Words
Budapest completely won me over – not just with its architecture and charm, but also with its incredible food scene. Whether you’re after brunch with a view, traditional Hungarian comfort food, or a fancy rooftop cocktail, this city has it all.

I just visited Budapest in September. I enjoyed amazing local food. And I loved the chimney cake.
There are so many amazing restaurants and cafés, but I have a soft spot for the ones tucked away in beautiful spots — like the charming Parisi Passage.
This was such a fun article to read as I just got back from Budapest! We went to some extraordinary restaurants but none on your list. Guess I’ll have to go back!
